SK hynix Inc, chipmaker develops world's first TSV-based chip.

SK hynix Inc., the world's No. 2 chipmaker, said Thursday it has developed the world's first memory chip equipped with the Through Silicon Via (TSV) technology, significantly improving speed and efficiency.
The South Korean chipmaker said the high-bandwidth memory chip has a 128-gigabytes-per-second processing speed, which is four times faster than the GDDR5 chips, and can run on a relatively small power of 1.2 volts.
The latest product by SK hynix will also consume 40 percent less power, the company added.
Jointly developed with U.S.-based Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), the new product combines four 40 nanometer-class dynamic random access memory (DRAM) under the TSV technology, which allows the DRAMs to be connected with higher electrical efficiency.
SK hynix said the TSV-based chip can be applied to devices that require high graphic performance, and it can also be used in super computers and servers. It said the mass production of the cutting-edge chips will begin in the second half of 2014.

Samsung Electronics announced that it would be unveiling the world’s first, largest and most curved 105-inch Curved UHD TV at CES 2014.
Earlier, Samsung showed off its advanced technology by unveiling the world’s first UHD TV at IFA 2013. Now, the company will prove its undisputed technology leadership in the global TV market by showcasing its 105-inch Curved UHD TV at CES 2014.
The Samsung 105-inch Curved UHD TV adopts a new proprietary picture quality algorithm that delivers optimized color and greater feeling of depth. As the curved panel has been further upgraded and TV circuit technology has been added, the combination of the upgraded curved panel with a greater picture quality engine provides the ultimate immersive experience.
As Samsung’s 105” Curved UHD TV is the world’s most curved, it provides almost two times vivid images when viewed from the side and the best possible TV viewing experience from any angle. Also, the 105 incher adopts ‘Quadmatic Picture Engine’ which delivers all content in UHD-level picture quality no matter what the source is. Samsung’s 105-inch Curved UHD TV boasts an 11 million pixels (5120X2160) screen resolution with a 21:9 aspect ratio.

When fully built, Prelude will be the largest floating facility ever created, weighing more than 600,000 tonnes.
It would be used to help in the production of natural gas from 2017, Shell said, and would operate for 25 years off Australia's north-west coast.
The area has a yearly cyclone season from November to April, but Prelude has been designed to withstand such conditions. It is hoped the facility will be able to produce enough gas to power a city the size of Hong Kong.
Despite appearances, Prelude cannot strictly be described as a ship as it needs to be towed to its destination rather than travelling under its own power.
Shell has not disclosed how much the vessel will cost, but industry analysts told Reuters that it would be likely to command a price of between $10.8bn and $12.6bn (£6.6bn - £7.7bn).
Not content with Prelude's record-breaking size, Shell said it had already started work on an even bigger facility.

Samsung have applied the gold color on the frames of the body, home button, speaker, back camera, and S pen. To be exact, there are two new colors: ‘gold + white’ and ‘gold + black’.
The Galaxy Note3 in gold will be available in Korea via SKT, KT, and LG U+ carriers in January 4th.

KT`s network division has been named as the chief operator of a monitoring center for a submarine cable of 9600 kilometers, linking 9 Asian countries, dubbed the Asia Pacific Gateway (APG).
The network operation center (NOC) for the cable, which will connect Korea to Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore and other countries. The cable is due to be laid by the end of 2014.
One of the key advantages of the new cable is that it will give Asian countries a more efficient method to route traffic to North America amid an explosive growth in demands for data-heavy devices ranging from smartphones to tablets.
“We won the deal thanks to our expertise and proven track record in submarine cable management,” said KT spokesman Seung-hyuck Jeong.
Jeong said under the agreement, KT, led by CEO Lee Suk-chae, will fix potential systemic errors and control disasters. “That literally means that KT will play the role as the ‘control tower’ for the cable,” said the spokesman.
In a statement, KT said the controls to be used for the submarine cable were certified on September 6.
“KT is the industry’s first to receive the authorization in that segment, meaning our solutions are ideally-positioned to handle this business,” added the spokesman.
KT has been active in boosting its investment to the project as it believes that the cable will pave the way for the firm to grow its content business, which KT identified as one of its new cash generators.
“Our investment in this cable project will significantly help diversify the corporate business portfolio with generating profit from non-telecom business,” he said.
The APG project is being managed in the form of a consortium.
Joining China Telecom and China Unicom are a number of other Asia Pacific-based telecom companies including China Mobile, Chunghwa Telecom, NTT DoCoMo, LG Uplus, Vietnamese Posts & Telecom Group, Viettel, TOT Public, CAT Telecom Public and StarHub. The length of the cable is set to be 9,600 kilometers.
KT is cutting its reliance on the saturated local telecom market by shifting its focus to promising and lucrative solution-related business areas.
Among major carriers in Korea, which include the market leader SK Telecom, KT is the furthest in overseas projects.
