Android leads Internet mobile users traffic.Chart. Q3-2013.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

According to webindex , in two short years Android has blown up the mobile market, going from 142m users (57% market share) to 709m users. This incredible growth is surely one of the most rapid marches to market dominance in history. iOS has also grown substantially from 75m users in Q2 2011 to 232m users in Q3 2013 (19% market share). The big loser is Symbian, which has fallen from a 20% market share to 5% in just two years. This is followed by Blackberry (down to 5% share) and Windows Mobile (6% market share), although Windows Mobile has recently started to grow again in 2013.

Interestingly, “Don’t know” has fallen from 20% market share to 5% market share, indicating how important the OS experience has become to users.

These results underline how mobile operating systems have radically reshaped the internet experience. Today, thanks to OS integration of internet services (e.g sharing via Twitter), in-built aggregation tools and the central positioning of app stores means the operating system is increasingly defining how we use the internet. This has far-reaching impacts across all aspects of digital behavior and can be crystalized in the example of the growth of messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Snapchat and Line. No longer do we need one service to do it all;operating systems promote the usage of an increasing number of services that do one thing, and do it well.

China opens a futurisitic airport terminal.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

Are you stunned, wowed and still with your mouth open? Yes I was like that and saying: what a beautiful design.

It is the new avant garde and eco-friendly terminal of Bao'an International Airport in Shenzhen, in southern China .

Estel futuristic building , 40 kilometers from Hong Kong , replaces three airport terminals , which closed operations on Wednesday after three tests in the new facility.

Shenzhen 's new terminal , designed by Italian architecture firm , FUKSAS , looks like a mocha , commonly known as a flying line.

Is the connection : the Chinese word meaning " blessed " sounds like " mocha  (mobula)" .

The new terminal , which cost 1,400 million dollars, according to reports, is three times larger than the current combined terminals and offers space for 76 aircraft .

The terminal has 200 counters for registering and approximately 200 stores .

The new terminal measures 451,000 square meters. Although far from being the largest city in China ( the new Terminal 3 of Beijing is approximately double ) might be one of the greenest .

It is the first airport in China that has a solar power plant of 10 megawatts , equivalent to the energy consumed by 10,000 homes in a month.

Ceiling windows , honeycomb , allow maximum penetration of sunlight, thereby reducing energy consumption .

Rainwater is collected and recycled in toilets and for watering plants is inside.

It also has 116 columns in a tree that fulfill three tasks : air conditioning, public address system and fire fighting equipment .

A way to go.

" My only regret of this project is that the metro line is not completed along with the terminal ," the spokesman transport committee of Shenzhen, Huang Min, said at the press conference launch.

The old terminals remain connected to the city via the metro line 1 .

The new metro line connecting the new terminal with the city will not be ready until 2016. In addition, a five-star airport hotel with 404 rooms is under construction.

The future of existing terminals not yet decided, but some proposals are turning them into shopping malls , exhibition centers or terminal for business jets and low-cost airlines , according to Zhang .

The Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport opened in 1991. Last year, concentrated transporting over 29 million passengers and over 855,000 tonnes of cargo.

With a growth of 18% per year , it is expected that the new terminal two tracks manage 45 million passengers and two million tons of cargo annually.

Finland: Jolla smartphone with Sailfish OS launched by Ex-Nokia engineers. Compatible with Android apps.

Finland: Jolla smartphone with Sailfish OS launched by Ex-Nokia engineers. Compatible with Android apps.

WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.

The Jolla handset's Sailfish platform has been developed from the MeeGo operating software, Nokia's last open-source platform which it abandoned in 2011 when it switched over to using Microsoft Corp.'s Windows system.

The Jolla spports a 4.5-inch display, eight megapixel camera,  supports fast 4G Internet connections and includes the well-received Nokia's HERE mapping services that cover more than 190 countries.

But, unlike Nokia's phones, Jolla is also compatible with more than 85,000 apps provided by Google Inc.'s Android

Marc Dillon, head of Jolla software and one of four founders of the company in 2011, spent 11 years working for Nokia after moving from the United States. He says Jolla's open operating system gives it an edge over rivals.

"We are providing a world-class choice ... that is an alternative for consumers (and) that can be very agile and powerful," Dillon said in an interview in a Helsinki office block previously occupied by Nokia employees before it laid off thousands. "For our operating system business we have a huge opportunity because there is currently one choice really available to every global mobile manufacturer and that's Android."

In a consumer test, the Jolla, which has a price tag of 399 euros ($540), didn't seem to have much to make it stand out among other smartphones. Its camera is standard; it uses a MicroSD card; has 16GB of memory storage, with a talk time and battery time of some 9-10 hours. But it has nice touches, including multiple swipe features and a useful user-replaceable battery, unlike many other models.

Neil Mawston from Strategy Analytics near London says the Jolla is not "an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy killer" although it but could find a niche in the relentless smartphone race.

"At some point people will start looking for an alternative to Android and Apple so there might be an opportunity in this very cyclical market for Jolla to grab market share," Mawston said. "But I think it will be two or three versions down the line before we really know whether Jolla or Sailfish is worthy of challenging Apple or Android or Microsoft."

Finnish telecoms company DNA, which started selling the Jolla handset on Wednesday evening as hundreds lined up outside the Jolla-DNA marquee in the city center, said it had "thousands of preorders" in 136 countries, led by Finland, Germany and Britain.

The company Jolla, which now has more than 100 employees in Finland and Hong Kong, has found backers among Finnish and foreign investors, including Hong-Kong based China Fortune Holdings Ltd., but Dillon declined to give more information.
