LG may develope webOS smartphones later.
WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.
As we know LG now plans to showcase an Internet-connected television model powered by webOS in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The LG WebOS smart TV would retain the “cards” system, or a stack of pop-ups that allows users to navigate multiple applications, originally used in the webOS mobile devices launched by Palm and later by HP.
LG didn’t comment on the company’s plans to market the webOS-powered TVs but said the operating system may be developed and later adopted for LG’s other consumer electronics, including smartphones.

CES 2014: Samsung to Introduce Innovative B2B Display Solutions.
CES 2014: Samsung to Introduce Innovative B2B Display Solutions.
WorldWide Tech & Science. Francisco De Jesùs.
Samsung Electronics will introduce a host of new commercial large format displays (LFDs) next week at 2014 International CES in Las Vegas. The company will display a variety of innovative LFD solutions for hotels, businesses and retailers that are designed to present visually stunning and differentiated experiences to customers. To demonstrate the benefits of its displays in each of these settings, the Samsung booth at CES will feature various virtual environments intended to replicate a state-of-the-art “paradise of hotels,” including a lobby video wall, new hotel TV solution and display solutions for business centers – with Samsung’s ‘Interactive White Board’ and the world’s largest 95-inch LED LFD.
“Samsung continues to actively look for new markets for our innovative LFD B2B displays, including hotels, conference centers and shopping malls,” said Jeong-hwan Kim, Senior Vice President of Samsung Electronics’ Visual Display Business . “In the coming year, we will continue to add more innovative and differentiated LFD solutions in the market.”
To meet growing demand for advanced displays in the hotel industry, Samsung offers innovative display solutions for both the lobby and in-room environments. Designed to demonstrate the “Rediscovery of the Hotel Lobby,” Samsung will showcase clear, vivid information on a video wall meant for a hotel lobby, including weather information and exchange rates – which require real-time updates.
Samsung will also unveil its new hotel TV solution that can change hotel TVs into fun and useful information portals in hotel room-like spaces. Using this solution, hotels can easily add content – including films and games, as well as information regarding local tourist attractions – to enhance guests’ viewing experience and satisfaction.
Further, Samsung will introduce ‘Smart View,’ an innovative functionality that allows guests to view content from their smartphones and tablets through their in-room hotel TV screen. This new feature enables guests to enjoy content from their mobile devices, including movies and television shows, on the larger hotel TV screen.
For business center environments at hotels, Samsung will introduce the Interactive White Board (IWB) solution, featuring touch and multi-screen technologies. The Samsung IWB is an electronic bulletin board combining hardware and software that makes it possible to create large screens that can be operated by a single PC. Touch screen capabilities also make the IWB a convenient and collaborative solution for educational and corporate purposes. To further enhance the usability of the IWB and its family of LFDs, Samsung will also unveil a feature on the new device that allows users to easily make screen adjustments, as well as a pointer function designed to replace traditional laser pointers.
Additionally, Samsung will showcase the world’s largest 95-inch LED LFD (Model: ME95C), now in mass production, with a 2.1-meter magnificent display that highlights the new product’s clear picture quality and other features. The company will demonstrate the differentiated attributes of its LFDs by showing scenes of meetings at a business center on the ME95C.
Samsung Electronics has maintained its leadership position in the LFD market for the fifth consecutive year, accounting for 26.4 percent in sales volume in the third quarter of 2013. The company also solidified its position in the growing B2B display market, which is known as a new growth engine, by increasing its market share from 19 percent in 2012 to 26 percent in 2013.

New Platform Represents Completely New Paradigm in
Smart TVs Now and in the Future
LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) today unveiled its newest Smart TV platform at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. webOS, which was purchased from Hewlett-Packard in March last year, has been reinvented and reintroduced as LG’s new Smart TV platform. The new operating system offers an intuitive user interface for an experience that is both seamless and refreshingly uncomplicated, based on years of experience collected by the webOS team. Furthermore, the new platform makes it extremely easy for developers to create applications and enhances the compatibility of LG’s Smart TVs with other devices.
“We are extremely excited to be able to introduce webOS optimized for LG Smart TV here at CES 2014” said In-kyu Lee, Senior Vice President and head of the TV division at the LG Electronics Home Entertainment Company. “The beauty of webOS is that it provides so much freedom, and is so simple to use. We feel confident that consumers will find navigating, exploring and switching between different forms of content on webOS a truly enjoyable, not frustrating, experience.”
Simple to Connect, Easy to Use
The webOS platform, which will be implemented in more than 70 percent of LG’s Smart TVs in 2014, greatly simplifies the smart TV experience. Its ease-of-use makes content searching and viewing, connecting with other devices, and even the initial setup process incredibly smooth. The first time the user turns on the webOS-enabled LG Smart TV, an animated character named BeanBird appears onscreen to help get connected and walk the use through the setup process. All the viewer has to do is shake the Magic Remote or press the OK button to receive further advice from the winged virtual facilitator. webOS can instantly recognize when and what kind of external device has been plugged into the TV and brings up a pop-up menu listing all relevant options for the user to choose from.
Instant Access and Easy Content Switching
The new Launcher, a left-to-right scrollable menu that runs along the lower portion of the screen is one of the most distinctive features of webOS. The Launcher makes it possible to switch between broadcast TV, smart TV content and media stored on external devices without having to return to the Home screen. It allows the viewer to simultaneously watch a show, play a game or browse the internet while searching or downloading other content. What’s more, Live Menu, which can be opened while viewing the TV, keeps the search, recommendation and channel options within easy reach.
Content Discovery Made Simple
The webOS development team in LG’s Silicon Valley Lab created the unique Today menu as a one-stop content recommendation service, suggesting popular TV shows, programs that have been missed as well as full-feature movies. Running horizontally along the center of the screen, the Today bar can also be scrolled up or down via the Magic Remote wheel to reveal more exciting viewing options.
LG’s webOS also offers access to the LG Store’s comprehensive collection of apps. The LG Store lets users browse the most-viewed and most-downloaded items available from across the Smart TV platform, including broadcast TV programs and the latest games. The logically organized categories, which include 3D content, games and movies, employ thumbnail images for fast and convenient selection of content.
Visitors to LG’s CES booth (2014 (Las Vegas Convention Center, Central Hall #8204) from January 7 to January 10 can experience webOS on LG’s latest OLED TVs, 4K ULTRA HD TVs and on other models from the company’s new year Home Entertainment lineup.

Press Release:
LG to showcase industry leading OLED TV lineup at CES 2014.
Leader in OLED TV Brings Its Full Range of Cutting-edge
Products to Las Vegas’s Annual Electronics Extravaganza.
SEOUL, Jan. 2, 2014 — LG Electronics (LG) is proud to present the most comprehensive OLED TV lineup on the planet at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 7-10, 2014. Visitors to the company’s booth at CES will have the opportunity to see the world’s largest ULTRA HD CURVED OLED (model 77EC9800) TV along with the company’s various 55- and 65-inch OLED TV models. Also on display will be the elegant GALLERY OLED TV (model 55EA8800) and the CURVED OLED TV (model 55EB9600) with its friendly environmental footprint.
“All of the exceptional OLED models we’re showcasing at CES 2014 offer the ultimate in picture quality and refined, modern aesthetics,” said In-kyu Lee, Senior Vice President and head of the TV Division at LG Electronics’ Home Entertainment Company. “Driving the evolution of television into the next generation, LG will continue to employ its technological and design expertise to bring impressive OLED TVs to market.”
Unmatched Picture Quality
The 55-, 65- and 77-inch ULTRA HD CURVED OLED TVs combine LG’s proprietary WRGB OLED technology and 4K Ultra HD screen resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) for a whole new level of picture quality and viewer immersion. Filling the viewer’s field of vision with gorgeous, high-contrast images, the 77EC9800’s sensually curved screen is supported by a beautiful leaf-shaped stand. A standout product, the company’s mammoth 77-inch model is the recipient of the highly-prized Best of Innovations at the 2014 CES Innovations Awards.
The color temperature of each pixel on the enormous 77-inch display is automatically controlled by the LG Color Refiner, resulting in superior consistency and balance. The TV’s infinite contrast ratio is adeptly managed by the company’s High Dynamic Range (HDR) algorithm. The striking ULTRA HD CURVED OLED TV also boasts the eye-popping visuals of ULTRA CINEMA 3D. Thanks to film-type patterned retarder (FPR) technology and Ultra HD resolution, the user can marvel at the most convincing 3D effects ever seen on a TV without having to endure distracting flickering or cross-talk.
For more high resolution viewing options, the 77EC9800 has been equipped with LG’s own Tru-ULTRA HD Engine Pro, which can upscale SD, HD or Full HD content into breathtaking near-4K picture quality. The results are rendered even more seamless due to the error-correction capabilities of the enhanced super resolution algorithm to prevent blurred image from the upscaling process. The TV also incorporates Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC) to make the onscreen action appear smoother, clearer and more realistic.
Consumers will appreciate that LG’s ULTRA HD CURVED OLED TVs are future-proof, able to decode broadcast signals in both H.264 and HEVC H.265 formats, at 30p or 60p. A convenient built-in decoder makes it possible to display Ultra HD content from external devices connected via the TV’s HDMI, USB or LAN ports. Model 77EC9800 also incorporates LG’s newest smart TV platform, enabling consumers to enjoy a refreshingly simple and intuitive user experience.
Creative Concepts, Award Winning Products
Beautiful to behold, hidden behind the elegant frame of the GALLERY OLED TV is the Canvas Speaker, a powerful 2.2 channel, 100W forward-facing setup that guarantees a superb auditory experience unavailable on any other OLED TV. Honored with a CES 2014 Innovations Award, the artistically inspired EA8800 is the only unit that can make an average living room feel like an actual art gallery. The unit’s unique eGallery feature provides a variety of display modes that can be activated to create a specific mood. For instance, Gallery Mode turns the TV into a picture frame displaying some of the world’s most famous works of art while Healing & Remembering Modehelps to create a warm and inviting atmosphere through mood-lifting sounds and images.
LG’s latest CURVED OLED TV, the 55EB9600, is a highly efficient, environmentally-friendly product. Demonstrating the company’s commitment to responsible manufacturing, the model is made with more recyclable materials and considerably fewer parts than its predecessor. Lightweight and energy conscious, the 55EB9600 has received a CES 2014 Innovations Award for its eco-friendliness and superior build quality.
Investing in the Future of OLED
To prepare for the imminent growth in demand for OLED TVs around the world, LG is establishing production bases in a number of countries outside of Korea. The company has already completed the construction of new TV plants in Brazil, Poland, China and Thailand with an advanced facility in Mexico commencing operation this year producing OLED TVs for the North American market. Through the creation of this large-scale global OLED TV production network, LG is building an early lead in the next generation TV technology. With strategic bases serving local and surrounding markets, LG aims to reduce export costs and increase price competitiveness.
